ROBERT A. STRANIERE has an extensive background in American Government and Politics, serving as a member of the New York State Assembly for 24 years representing the South Shore of Staten Island. Bob served for 10 years (1995-2004) as the Floor Leader for the Assembly Republican Conference as the Assistant Minority Leader.
For 24 years Bob was a member of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, serving as Ranking Member for one session. The Committee Appointment included responsibility for directing a staff of 30 budget analysts and financial professionals, as well as meeting regularly with State fiscal agency authorities .
Bob served on the Executive Board of the Council of State Government and was Chairman of its International Committee, leading delegations and legislative forums in Europe, Asia, and Africa. He also served on the Executive Board of the Eastern Regional Council of State Governments and the Executive Board of the American Legislative Exchange. Bob was also active in the National Council of State Legislators and served as a Senior Advisor to the Eastern Trade Council.
In 2005 Bob served as an Advisor/Consultant to the International Republican Institute in Macedonia and Romania, which helped establish and refine democratic election processes in these former bloc nations.
Bob is a proud Cum Laude graduate of Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Bob earned a JSD Degree in Law at New York University and also holds a Masters Degree of Law from New York University. Bob served honorably in the United States Army Reserves as a Tank Officer during the Vietnam Era and earned the rank of Eagle Scout while a member of Troop 18.
Since leaving the New York State Legislature in 2005, Bob Straniere has been practicing law on Staten Island and in Manhattan. In the fall of 2005 he created The New York City Hot Dog Company, a retail food establishment in Tribeca.
Bob has served for 25 years as an Independent Director and Trustee for more than thirty different market-listed American Mutual Funds. These well-respected fund families include equity, bond, international, tax-exempt and money market investment vehicles.
Bob's father worked as a Unites States Postal Worker and for the New York City Highway Department. Bob's mother was an endearing Public School teacher on Staten Island. Bob's parents were born in New York City and raised in Staten Island and SoHo. His grandparents came to the United States over 100 years ago from Italy and Poland.
A lifelong Staten Islander for more than sixty years, Bob and his wife Ruth raised and educated their four children on Staten Island. They are the proud grandparents of five. The couple has raised their family in an atmosphere that reflects the values of hard work, patriotism, and close family bonds.
As your Congressman, I will:
Oppose any attempt to increase our taxes, and in July of 2008 he traveled to Washington, DC to sign the "No Tax Pledge."
Support energy solutions that will reduce the cost of gasoline and oil for consumers through a combination of long-term resource exploration, drilling for more oil on American territories, and investing in alternative sources of energy.
Continue to be a strong, proud advocate for our brave veterans and their families.
Offer market-based solutions so that affordable and appropriate healthcare will be available for each and all New Yorkers.
Work to guarantee and preserve Social Security for all senior citizens.
Fight to increase funding for homeland security to protect our ports and borders.
Tackle the transportation issues facing the district by exploring roadway, railway, and waterway solutions.
